Sightseeing Day (and a Little Shopping)

πŸ“ National Historic Trails Interpretive Center, Casper, WY

Sightseeing day β€” and a little shopping. Also figured out how to get medication refills on the road: turned off the automatic CVS refills and pick them up as needed. Lesson learned. πŸ‘

Only in Wyoming: The Wind-Proof Traffic Light

On the way to our first stop, we passed this massive structure built just to hold traffic lights. It made total sense after the 40–50 MPH winds we encountered yesterday.

The N4R Group Photo

We gathered here for another N4R (Nuts for Ruts) group photo β€” women in their bonnets, men with their neckerchiefs. See if you can find me…

One of the other pioneer ladies and I were waiting for everyone to arrive and sat on a wooden bench outside the log cabin (to the right of the corral). A ranger came out and asked if he could take our picture. Apparently it was the first day the bench had been out and we were the first two to sit on it. 😁 Who knows β€” you may see us in a brochure for the Visitor’s Center soon!

Another ranger had been waiting to run a film that was supposed to play every hour on the hour β€” we delayed it about 5–8 minutes as most of us gathered into the theater after the group photo. They had a display with a screen above it telling the story of the migration west.

The Treaties

We also watched a film about the Native tribes who encountered the westward migration, and the treaties that were signed β€” and then broken by the white settlers.

It is difficult to understand all that went awry between the white man and the Native tribes, but every time a treaty was signed, it was usually violated. There are two very different views of what it means when a treaty is broken.

Dinner at the Silver Fox

We ended the day with a great meal at the Silver Fox. Wine by the bottle was 40% off on Thursdays β€” well, that worked out for us! One bottle of Cab later and I am fending off sleep as I write… 🍷

A short missive today, but a good day overall.
